Things amateur developers should know

If you are an amateur developer, you would probably be confused about where to start and which direction to follow as you would be working in a broad field where you can choose from a number of options. You should know exactly how to get an edge over other developers.

You should choose your specialization. Do not try to be a jack of all trades, choose one programming language and become a master of it. PHP, ASP.net, Java, C++ etc. there are many options around, just choose the language that suits you most. You should choose one language because you cannot actually master two languages at a time. If you are confused which language to choose in the beginning, try to choose what you want to develop and then choose a language according to it.

For example, you can choose PHP if you want to develop wordpress themes. No matter which language you choose, make sure you learn it using the latest web standards. It might sound useless to some, but it is the right method to make a grip on any language. Learn the basic language first and then move on to the advanced or cooler versions.

If you stumble on some problem, don’t waste a lot of time digging it, just visit a coding forum and you will get the perfect assistance. Coding forums are really helpful for any developer as sharing ideas, techniques and thoughts can really help you get around things well. Coding forums would also help you develop a network with people sharing your field of interest. You can even partner with one of your friends on the forum to build bigger codes.

Get yourself a professional tool to work on like Dreamweaver or Coda. Tools would really help you a lot, they would fix mistakes, auto-complete and most importantly, they would help complete the code in style.

Every amateur developer has a great potential, the very fact that you have chosen to become a developer speaks masses about your talent. Just make the right choices and you would be good to go.
